White Out Wonder

The new trend for summer in nails... WHITE POLISH! It's a trend that looks awesome on pretty much anyone, especially if you're tan. I've seen white polish done in a number of ways but my favorite by far is with an accent nail of a standout color. I did mine over the weekend and I did a totally opaque white with a coral colored accent nail! I think it's a cool look, check it out in the pic below! Let me know what you think!

Paint 4 Pennies 6/29/11

I'm starting entries that will be called Paint 4 Pennies, it'll be a entry with awesome beauty buys on a budget! Lets face it not every girl (including myself) has $20 to spend on one tube of awesome lipstick, so I'll explore some amazing alternatives!

This week: I'll be featuring some items from NYX which is a brand geared towards professionals but without the professional price tag! The quality is pretty decent!

I'll start with my new fav, NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Amsterdam, thanks to my favorite Ulta girl Veronica (who happened to be wearing this today) I picked up this gem! It only cost me $5.99, the color is bright and long lasting! I've been wearing it for hours and it still looks great!

I also pisked up a great lipstick shade, NYX Lipstick in Frosted Flakes. It's a light brown shimmery shade that will look FIERCE (obviously said in Tyra Banks voice)! NYX's lipsticks last for a good amount of time considering the extreme bargin at $3.99 per tube! What girl doesn't love that price?!

Also, I picked up an orage shimmery shade, NYX Lipstick LSS507 (This color doesnt have a name so the coding is how it can be identified)! This shade was also priced at $3.99!

I also picked up 2 eye liners, each priced $3.49, SCORE!!!!!!
NYX Eye/Eyebrow Pencil in 937 Silver Glitter and NYX Eye/Eyebrow Pencil in 918 White Pearl.
The silver shade is very metallic with silver glitter and the white shade is white with a pearlescent shimmer.
On the left is the Silver Glitter and on the right is the White Pearl.
My last awesome buys for pretty much pennies, was the NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Hot Pink. It is an intense pink color buts blends out smoothly and doesn't look unnatural! It was an awesome buy for $6.99!

So stick  with me and we'll turn your pennies into awesomeness!!!!!!!!!!!

Acne Assualt *Updated 9-4-2011*

Embarrassing as this may be, now that I'm 24 I'm finally plagued by acne! :-O I know right! I was lucky enough to have mostly clear skin up until this point. Imagine my horror when I discovered that this was an ongoing thing and not just a bad hormonal break out! I've almost tried everything! Nuetrogena, Murad, Avon, Mario B. (The last name is atrocious to try to spell!), Dermologica (Which used to work amazingly for me but I guess my skin got too bad! But I highly suggest it!) and nothing worked. I've even tried my moms remedy of Witch Hazel and Wintergreen Rubbing Alcohol! AND still NOTHING! I've tried drinking more water, cutting out greasy foods, you name it I've probably tried it! So finally I was at the Bon Ton buying Estee Lauder Idealist (Entry on that to come soon!) and the girl mentioned to me about Clinique. She basically said if you've tried everything else and it didn't work try Clinique. So I finally did, It's been 2 days and so far I'm impressed enough to be writing this! My skin is rapidly clearing up! I hope this isn't the calm before the storm though! I'll keep you guys updated!

*UPDATE*  9-4-2011 So it's been over about 2 months since I started using the Clinique Acne Solutions Kit and I must say I cannot live without it! My skin has improved drastically as long as I use it day and night faithfully! :)

In LOVE with LIPSTICK!

As a young woman like any other young woman my age, I've always assumed that lipstick was meant for older women. The ones like my maternal grandma who won't leave the house without it and it happens to be blood red or like my Gram ( May she RIP) who wore an interesting shade of orange. I never understood this because I was concerned with how "poppin'" my lip gloss was like everyone else in my age bracket! Recently, I've dkiscovered my buried love for lipstick. Considering it's generally more long lasting then lip gloss and no where near as sticky! Plus the color pay off is AH-freakin-mazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And since I have some pretty plump lips and a tanish skin tone, I can rock some pretty outrageous colors! I'm in the process of collecting shades that I love! I now have 6 shades which vary from a pale lavender to HOT pink! Sending you multi-colored kisses XOXO Chanel

Oh God! Oh God! Yep, I had a MAC-gasm!!!!!!!!!!!!

During my last adventure to Philly I decided to visit the MAC store! The mecca for any makeup obsessed girl! I felt a little tinge of guilt, as I usually use Urban Decay, but I had to do it! I had heard so many great things about MAC and "curiosity killed the cat"!!!! AND the cats bank account!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So we get there (we as in my BFF and myself) and I'm speechless!!! There was so much to pick from in such a small space!!!!!! And then the MAC-gasm started!!!!!!! That store mind f*@$%^ me like no other! In the midst of my orgasmic experience, I discovered with the help of the MAC chick, the most amazing thing! Now a daily staple of mine, MAC Girl About Town Lipstick!!!!!!!!!! It's this amazing bright hooker pink that most women wouldn't even dare try!!!! But me being the limit tester I am, tried it and love, LOVE, LOVED it!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm addicted and MAC's got me hooked! Who needs a man when you can have overpriced, amazing makeup?! :) HOT pink MAC kisses XOXO Chanel

Slow Progress is Still Progress!

After the so-called light bulb moment, I decided to take my time finding a cosmetology program that suited me. I checked out my local low grade beauty school and was not particularly impressed. The skill level of the program just wasn't up to my expectations! It looked like a high school vocational program, definitely was not for me! So after that experience I drug my feet with the decision to give up my steady salary for my passion. But then I decided to visit Philly, I realized how much I missed my friends and how much I LOVED the city! So I decided to check out JMA institute! It was freakin' amazing! Right off of South Street, SCORE!!!!!!!!!!! The style of the program fit my expectations and I actually felt like it would be a nice fit!!!!! Double SCORE!!!!!!!!!!! :D So 5 days after my admissions interview, I got the call (Right in front of my boss, long story, that's another entry) that I got in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Light Bulb Moment!

So welcome to my blog! My names Chanel and this is my first actual entry so bare with me. :) So I’m pretty typical on paper; 24, small town girl, single, works in human services, proud mommy of furry four-legged creature who I treat like an actual child, live with roommates, close to my mom, etc., etc. But in person I’m not so typical, I’m a loud mouthed, fun, animal print wearing, fashion loving, risk taking, and a city girl at heart!!! So one day I’m in my favorite store, Ulta, watching some lady get her makeup done for her wedding trial. By this point I have become an avid Urban Decay fan and junkie; I get approached by this “oh so fabulous” guy! He says to me “Giiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll, I love your makeup! Let me see what you can do!” So I look at him like he’s crazy, and say “But I don’t work here.” Skipping all the boring “blah, blah, blah”, turns out I hooked this lady up! She loved my work, 1000x’s more than the actual artist! As I left I felt amazing, I’d always been good at makeup and hair. Why haven’t I thought of this before? I’ve always been good at makeup and hair! And that was my light bulb moment where I decided (kinda freakin late I might add) that cosmetology was where my heart was! I hope you stick with me through my journey! XOXO Chanel
